The Castle Set  (modern version)

This is a popular set from the County Tipperary, it's often refered to as The Cashel Set. It is presented here in it's more popular modern form. The traditional version is danced mainly to jigs.

 
Figure 1, Slides - 200 Bars
    8 bar lead in 8 bars
a House Top couples house around each other in waltz hold. 8 bars
b Cross Over Top couples cross to the opposite side with ladies passing inthe centre. All turn clockwise and cross back to home and turn in to their partners. 8 bars
c Advance With right hands, all couples advance and retire twice. 8 bars
d Ladies Swing All ladies swing the gent on her right and finish on the gents right at the end of the swing. (The ladies have move one place to the right.) 8 bars
e Circle All form a circle and advance and retire twice. 8 bars
f Ladies Home All ladies dance home and swing their own partners. 8 bars
g Tops Repeat Tops repeat a - f. 48 bars
h Side Repeat Sides repeat a - f twice. This time, the ladies swingthe gent on her left. (The ladies have move one place to the left.) 96 bars

a House Top couples house around each other in waltz hold. 8 bars
b Advance, Cross With right hands, the top couples advance and retire once. The ladies then cross left shoulders and swing once with the opposite gent. 8 bars
c Lead Around Top couples lead around, with the ladies holding right hands in the centre. The ladies left hand should be on her new partner's left shoulder, and the gents right arm should be around the ladies' waists. 8 bars
d Swing Top couples swing with their new partners. 8 bars
e Tops Repeat Tops repeat a - d to bring the ladies home. 32 bars
f Sides Repeat Side couples repeat a - e 64 bars

    8 bar lead in 8 bars
a House Top couples house around each other in waltz hold. 8 bars
b Ladies Chain Top ladies chain right hands in the centre, Left arm around the opposite gent, and then left arm around their own partners. 8 bars
c Swing First top gent and second top lady meet in the centre and swing. They then retire in between the side couple to the left of their own position. 8 bars
d Advance & Retire First top lady and second top gent advance and retire twice. 8 bars
e Advance & Retire The side 'threes', with arms around each other's waists, advance and retire twice. 8 bars
f Swing All dance two bars to their own partners and swing the remaining six bars. 8 bars
g Tops Repeat Tops repeat a - f with the first top lady and the second top gent leading. 48 bars
h Sides Repeat Side couples repeat a - g 96 bars

Figure 4, Hornpipes - 152 Bars
    8 bar lead in 8 bars
a House Top couples house to opposite, then double back to home (four bars). The gents then dance across left shoulders while turning clockwise (two bars); then the top couples clap four times, and then stamp four times (two bars). 8 bars
b Repeat Top couples repeat a with their new partners. 8 bars
c Repeat Again Top couples repeat a & b. 16 bars
d Go Home Top couples house to opposite, then double back to home. 4 bars
e Sides Repeat The side couples repeat a - d. 36 bars
f Repeat Again Repeat the entire figure (a - e) again starting with the top couples. 72 bars

Figure 5, Polkas or Slides- 256 Bars
    8 bar lead in 8 bars
a Lead Around With arms around their partner's waists and holding hands, all couples lead around anti-clockwise. They advance to each position (two bars) and the dance in place for two bars before moving on to the next position. 16 bars
b House Top couples house around each other. 8 bars
c Slide and Change Top couples slide in to the centre and back, then house to the opposite. Then repeat to get home. 16 bars
d House Top couples house around each other. 8 bars
e Chain Top ladies chain, right hands in centre, left arm to opposite gent, and left hand to their own partner, turning to enter the lead-around position. During the last two bars, the side couples should enter the lead around position by turning anti-clockwise at home with their arms around their partners waists. 8 bars
f Repeat Side couples repeat a - e. 56 bars
g Repeat Repeat the entire figure (a - f) again starting with the top couples. 112 bars
h Lead Around All couples dance a. 16 bars
i Circle All couples circle, advance and retire twice to finish. 8 bars

Figure 6, Polkas - 120 Bars
    8 bar lead in 8 bars
a Circle All couples circle, advance and retire twice (eight bars), then swing their partners for the remaining eight bars. 16 bars
b Ladies Move On and Lead Around The gents dance in to the centre, turning anti-clockwise in to the lead around position while the ladies move to the gent on their right (two bars). With the gents right arm around the ladies waist and the ladies lef thand on the gents right shoulder, lead around back to the gents original position. 8 bars
c Repeat Repeat a and b until the ladies are once again with their original partners. 72 bars
d Circle and Swing All couples circle, advance and retire twice, then swing to finish. 16 bars
