Set Dancing Workshop with Patrick O'Dea - Thursday, February 21st - All the way from Ireland we have a special treat for you all - A set dancing workshop with Patrick O'Dea instructing in the Saint Francis room at the U.I.C.C. from 7:30pm until 9:30pm. Dancing at the Plough and Stars to follow.
$10 for CCE Members, $15 for non-members.


Children's Céilí - Sunday, February 17th - It's fun for all at the next Children's Céilí will be held at the U.I.C.C. FREE for CCE Members, non-members are $5 per child or $10 for two or more chlidren.

An Introduction to Irish Music Through the Tin Whistle - We are pleased to continue our Children's Music Program with these introductory classes, held both in San Francisco and Berkeley.   These are six session classes intended for children in school grades 2 through 6. Please contact Michael Riemer for information on the next series of classes.

CCE hosts a night of Irish music and dance at the U.I.C.C.

Christmas Céilí - Sunday, December 9th - Join us and the Shannon Céilí Band for a night of great music and dancing at our annual Christmas Céilí. I hope that I'll see you all there!!

November Céilí - Oíche Shamhna - Mark the day - November 18th - for a night of great music and dancing at our annual November Céilí. I hope that I'll see you all there!!

Children's Céilí - It's fun for all at the next Children's Céilí will be held at the U.I.C.C. on Sunday, November 18th. FREE for CCE Members, non-members are $5 per child or $10 for two or more chlidren.

An Introduction to Irish Music For Kids - We are pleased to continue our Children's Music Program with an "Introductory to Irish Music for Kids". This one day event is intended for kids from the ages of 7 to 16 and is co-sponsored and hosted by the Freight & Salvage Coffee House in Berkeley. Activities include will include demonstrations of traditional instruments by local musicians, introductions to style and rhythm and a tin whistle lesson.

St. Patrick's Céilí - Join un on Sunday March 25th for the annual St. Patrick's Céilí at the U.I.C.C. It starts at 7:00pm and goes until 10:00pm. Cost: Adults $10 and childred are FREE.

CCE Presents the 'Emerald Extravaganza' at the U.I.C.C. - Join us for an evening of art, dinner, music and dancing at the United Irish Cultural Center. This is a fund raising event with proceeds going to fund CCE educational programs. Click the link above for more details.

December Céilí- Mark the day - December 10th - 7:00pm to 10:00pm. This is our annual Christmas Céilí. The Shannon Céilí Band, The Celtic Dance Ensemble and some special holiday treats are just some great things that we have lined up for this night. I hope that I'll see you all there!!

Samhain Party
- Our annual Samhain Costume Party will be held at the Plough and Stars on Saturday, October 28th. $15 Advance or $20 at the door. Tickets may be ordered online via PayPal here.

Set Dance Workshop & Céilí with Ronan Regan and Malden Meehan - Join us on Thursday, October 12th for workshop and evening
céilí. It will be held at the U.I.C.C. at 7:30pm

Irish Language Immersion Weekend - This language course is geared to accommodate adults at all learning stages, from those just starting to those who are more advanced but wanting practice. There will be three levels: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Class tuition will be by specialist teachers who use proven methods of language teaching and are themselves native speakers.

Irish Music & Song Workshop for Children - If your kids are interested in playing Irish music, this is the event for you - an afternoon of music and singing workshops. Featured instruments are whistle, accordion, fiddle and singing. It will be held at the U.I.C.C. starting at 1:00pm on Sunday August 13th. Registration opens at 12:30pm.


Family Céilí - Please bring your family join us for a fun evening of dancing, music, and fun on Sunday July 23rd from 7:00pm until 10:00pm. Cost: $10.00 per adult, children under 16 FREE.

Childrens' Céilí - Bring your kids and join us at the U.I.C.C. at 4:00pm on Sunday May 21st for a céilí just for the kids.

Petaluma Céilí - Yes, we are planning another ceili in Petaluma on February 4th. Stay tuned for more details.

Irish Network Dinner Dance
- Celebrating their 20th anniversary on January 21st at 'Michaels at Shoreline'. Cocktails at 6:00pm, Dinner at 7:00pm. $50.00 per seat. Please RSVP no later than January 18th. Register online via the Irish Network web site.

Samhain Céilí at the U.I.C.C. - Join us for a fun and exciting night of dancing and entertainment on Sunday November 6th.

Set Dancing Workshop and Céilí at the I.O.O.F. - Join Ronan Regan and Maldon Meehan on Saturday October 8th, for a dance workshop and evening céilí.

Deireadh Seachtaine Gaeltachta 2005 - (SF Bay Area Irish Language Immersion Weekend) was held on September 23th through 25th 6PM Friday through 4:30PM Sunday, at the United Irish Cultural Center, San Francisco.

2005 North American Convention - Will be held in Ottawa, Ont, on March 31st - April 3rd.

Seachtain na Gaeilge - March 5th - 17th.

St. Patrick's Day Ceili - Was held at the I.O.O.F. Hall in San Mateo on March 17th. This was a really good event and fun was had by all.

CCE Night at the U.I.C.C. - Was on March 19th. Great dinner and craic!!

September 17th - 19th - Deireadh Seachtaine Gaeltachta -
San Francisco Bay Area Irish Language Immersion Weekend

This language course is geared to accommodate adults at all learning stages, from those just starting to those who are more advanced but in need of practice. There will be three levels - advanced, intermediate, and beginner. Class tuition will be by specialist teachers who use proven methods of language teaching and are themselves native speakers. The teachers are being coordinated by Oideas Gael in Donegal, and will travel to San Francisco especially for this course. Each day’s study will consist of intensive morning and afternoon tutorials with attention directed toward spoken Irish and aimed at correct pronunciation, proper idiom, and development of vocabulary, particularly contemporary vocabulary. The intention is to foster conversational ability and fluency. Between classes, over meals, and during our seisiún each evening, you will be encouraged to keep practicing your Irish with people from all levels, while enjoying the craic! (There will be the opportunity for an extra seisiún Sunday evening after the course ends, for those who want to stay.)

October 23rd and 24th - West Region Convention - The Cooley~Keegan branch will host the West Region Convention in San Francisco. We have a good line up of talent for various music and set dancing workshops, and the concert with John Whelan and promises to be fantastic! We hope to see a good many people from throughout the West Region attend this event.

July 2nd & 3rd - Set Dance and Music Workshops and Céilí with Yutaka Usui - On Friday, July 2nd, Yutaka and Timmy will be teaching Accordion (C#/D) and Bodhran on San Carlos, and on Saturday, July 3rd, Yutaka and Timmy will lead us through a popular set with special attention to foot work and battering at St. John of God in San Francisco. Yutaka's wife, Doriane Reckner will be available to teach Breton dances from France.

For the music workshops there is a maximum limit of eight attendees. If you wish to attend a music workshop, you should e-mail Michael Duffy to reserve you space. There is no limit for the dance workshops. The schedule is as follows:

Sunday, March 28th - March Céilí - Please join us for our Family Céilí, with Irish music and dancing for all ages! The evening will include the presentation of our first "Kevin Mallen Music Scholarship". A young member of the Cooley-Keegan Branch will be the first recipient of our newly established award for learning Irish music, as one part of our new Traditional Irish Youth Music Program. Come along and help us to launch this program. We will be honoring the winner of our first Mallen Scholarship.

Saturday, February 28th - Set Dancing Workshop and Ceili with Patrick O'Dea - Yes, Patrick is once again going to be here for his yearly February workshop. There will be a morning workshop with an evening céilí to follow.

Friday, December 26th - Wren Boys - The Wren is at it again. Join us as we careen through the City jumping from house to house and pub to pub, looking for money to bury the Wren.

Sunday, October 26th - Children's Céilí - Those kids are at it again. Here is your chance to bring your children to yet another fun filled
céilí at the UICC.

Sunday, November 2nd - November Céilí - Oiche Samhain - Please join us for our annual Samhain Céilí. This year promises to be a good time!

October 4th - Céilí in Petaluma - Come and join us for an evening of Irish music and dance at the Hermann Sons Hall in Petaluma. The fun begins at 7:00pm with a traditional music seisiun and the dancing starts at 8:00pm. Music is provided by the Bridge Gap Céilí Band, and we will be joined by dancers from the Keenan School of Irish Dance. A pdf flyer is available here.

August - The Barefield Ceili Band visits San Francisco - We are sponsoring the Barefield Céilí Band in a visit to San Francisco in early August. These talented young musicians range in age from 11 to 17, and will be in SF for about a week before traveling on to Milwaukee for the Milwaukee Irish Festival. Many of these kids are All-Ireland Champions. This is an event not to be missed. Venues in SF will include a concert and seisiuns in the Bay Area.  A pdf flyer is available here. The schedule is:

Whistle and Guitar Workshop
- Angeline Leleux will be hosting a whistle and guitar workshop at her home in Cupertino on Tuesday, May 20th. The whistle workshop will start at 6:30pm and run until 7:30pm, and Shannon Heaton will be the instructor. The Guitar workshop is instructed by Matt Heaton and will start at 8:00pm and go until 9:00pm. The cost is $30 per workshop and there will be a seisiun afterwards. Saturday, May 4th - Tommy Peoples Workshop
- All levels welcome; beginners encouraged; limited space available. The cost is $50 per person. This is very last minute, so please contact us right away. Tommy will teach from 3-5pm, followed by a session/potluck/party. Hosted by Richard Adrianowicz and Cait Reed at their home in the Inner Sunset. Comhaltas North American Convention
- Was held in Boston, MA on the weekend of April 26th. The West Coasters were well represented with over 40 of us there. Photos are available in the photo galley, and more will follow. Next year's convention will be held in Parsippany, NJ.

- We are looking for volunteers to help with getting our float put together, people to march and carry our flags and for people to dance on the float.

Saturday, February 15th - San Francisco Piper's Club Concert
- The San Francisco Pipers' Club presents its annual Irish music concert featuring the uilleann pipes and other instruments next Saturday, February 15th. Featured guest is uilleann piper Brian McNamara from County Leitrim. In addition there will be performances from local musicians Todd Denman, Cait Reed and others. The concert will be emceed by Sean Folsom, who will demonstrate examples from his collection of 35 different kinds of bagpipes.
