Local Traditional
Bands
We are fortunate
to have several good Traditional Bands here in San Francisco. Over
the years most of them have played at ceilis that we have hosted.
The Bridge Gap Céilí Band This
is the band that plays to many of our céilís and gatherings. We set
dance every 1st Thursday to Bridge Gap. Range of fiddles, banjo, button
accordions, concertina, and Roland keyboard or piano. They know the
sets well!
CRÓNÁN Jack
Gilder leads this band with fine vocal artist.
Culann's Hounds
With uilleann pipes, fiddle, mandolin or bazouki, flute, plus bodhran
and vocals. A lively sound.
The Fox on
the Town A new band playing for ceilis, set dances, contra
dances, pub gig, weddings, wakes and more.
The Gasmen San Francisco-based Irish band
led by mandolin player and composer Vincie Keehan.
The band has been together since 1995 and they play jigs,
reels, hornpipes, and soulful ballads. (website here when available).
Singer Orla Morrison and her husband Richard Morrison have returned
back home to Co. Cork; however, the band continues in fine form.
The Golden Gate Céilí Band One of our
newest bands here. They are playing for our dancers at Ireland's 32
twice a month on the second and fourth Sundays. Come by and check
them out.
The Shannon Céilí Band Play for us at various ceilis and dances
the Plough and Stars.
Sheltering
Sky A new traditional vocal band.
Tipsy House
Jack Gilder, Richard Mandel, and Kevin Bernhagen. This is the
band we set dance to at the Plough and Stars every Thursday, except
the 1st Thursday of the month (when we dance to The Shannon Céilí
Band). Jack plays concertina, flute, penny whistle (more?), with Richard
on guitar and five-string banjo, and Kevin on fiddle. They know the
proper bars for sets, especially Jack! |
